FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Part of the process of therapy is feeling comfortable with your therapist to ask any kinds of questions. Below are some questions that many people have when thinking about starting therapy or about the beginning stages of therapy. Each day, my clients ask many more questions, which she helps guide her clients to answers.
If you still have some questions about therapy that are unanswered, contact me and I will be happy to speak with you directly.
WHAT IS A THERAPIST?
A therapist is a professional trained in the science of human behavior who evaluates, diagnoses and treats problems of adjustment as well as other emotional or mental problems.
CAN I BENEFIT FROM SEEING A THERAPIST?
A common misconception is that a therapist deals only with serious mental illness.  Most therapists specialize in helping people with the common problems of daily living, such as depression, anxiety, stress, marital and family problems, communication problems, and sexual difficulties.  Many people could benefit from the help of a therapist at difficult times in their lives.
WHAT DOES TREATMENT INVOLVE AND HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
Counseling, whether it be individual, marital or family, involves learning more about yourself and how to better manage different areas of your life. Â You may wish to communicate more effectively with your spouse, improve your self-esteem, or be more comfortable in social situations. Â The length of treatment varies with each person. Â This can usually be estimated after you have completed your initial evaluation.
WHAT KIND OF TRAINING DOES NANCY HAVE?
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the States of Georgia and North Carolina. You can learn more about me in the About Me section (scroll up!). I have also completed training to become a certified Imago therapist, a style of therapy which helps couples communicate better, that you can find out more about here.
DOES NANCY ACCEPT INSURANCE?
Yes, I do accept certain insurance plans. To find out which specifically, you must speak with me directly.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT WHEN IÂ COME TO THE OFFICE FOR MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?
The first step in treatment involves developing an accurate assessment of you and your problem. Your first appointment will involve your completing some information sheets, brief inventories and having an interview with your therapist.  After this initial evaluation is completed, a treatment plan will be discussed.
IS WHAT IÂ DISCUSS CONFIDENTIAL?
From the very first call...
ARE SESSIONS IN-PERSON OR THROUGH A MOBILE DEVICE?
Due to Covid-19, all sessions are being conducted virtually.
DO I HAVE TO LIVE IN GEORGIA OR NORTH CAROLINA TO SEE NANCY?
Yes, while I would love to help you if you live in another state, I am only licensed in Georgia and North Carolina, so you must live in either of those states.
HOW CAN IÂ SCHEDULE MY APPOINTMENT?
By simply calling me at 336.275.5457. I will ask you a few simple questions about your situation and schedule you an appointment at the earliest possible time.
